Abstract

The compilation of field experiences includes description, application and learning (Glass, 2005; Earley, 2007; and Sert and Seedhouse, 2011). Description outlines research strategies, tools and experiences noted during an intervention. Application embodies how these strategies and tools are made to fit research situations, while learning informs future researchers on their use in designing further studies. Zimbabwe has experienced tropical cyclones before Cyclone Idai, but the magnitude of destruction caused by Idai was unprecedented. It hit Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe on March 15–16, 2019. The cyclone impacted Manicaland (east of Zimbabwe) with flooding, rock falls and landslides, leading to significant loss of life, injury, displacement and damage to infrastructure and property in Chimanimani district (The Herald, 2019).
